Tag tracking is a term we came up with in 2012. Most people are familiar with the Leadsources we set usuing iTracker360.
A leadsource might look like the followng:
- facebook-ppc-free trial
Tag Tracking simple applies a tag named "facebook-ppc-free trial" to the contact record. The nice thing about a tag, is that it is time stamped. So now you could do a saved search for all of your contacts who have that tag and add it as a dashboard stat within Infusionsoft.
At times, you might also want a dashbaord stat for just "facebook" or "ppc" or "free trial" - Basically you want to just only parts of the tag. That is what we call Split Tagging. So a contact will have 3 tags applied that look like the following:
- free trial
Now you can have more dashboard stats inside Infusionsoft that is based off this data.
Tag tracking is a great way to see quick stats on who is converting by which source, medium, campaign, etc. You can also use this later if you ever get into more Advanced Reporting.
At the minimum, you can turn tag tracking on so you atleast you will get the data into your Infusionsoft account. You never know when you might need it!
Here's a tip: Use the split tagging, or tag tracking, to trigger campaigns or goals in your Infusionsoft sequence. Just use the "when a tag is applied" goal inside the campaign builder. This way you can trigger facebook specific emails to go out VS adwords specific emails.
